Hey everyone! So Liz and I arrived in Hong Kong last night and actually had a pretty sweet plane trip over with good food and lots of movies. The woman sitting next to me was this 90 year-old Indian woman who spoke no English but weirdly reminded me of Mimi (my great-grandmother for those of you who don't know). She was rather spunky and we developed our own sort of language so I could help do her buckle and communicate with the flight attendants haha. We're staying on Nathan Road and it looked like the afternoon even last night because there are SOOO many bright, flashing lights. We've been blown away by how helpful and nice everyone we've encountered has been. After having some fantastic dim sum at a place my friend Mark recommended, we were trapped in a huge downpour and waited it out in a Coach store. The people working in the store actually gave us an umbrella (because we were so genius not to bring our own) to face the storm with.
After this we took the Peak Tram up to the top of a mountain to get a really great view of all the sky scrapers and water... it was beautiful and there were some really great buildings tucked into all of the greenery.
There are malls everywhere and it's all super clean. I was telling my family in an email that it's like a mix of New York (because it's hot, humid, and crowded), San Francisco (for obvious reasons), and Hawaii (near the water it's very geen and tropical). The shopping is insane and you'll have Dior next to Todd's and so on and so forth in the malls. We're excited to go out tonight and meet some more tourists (we're easy to spot).
Let me know how you're all doing and we'll post some photos when we have more time. We're off to go find a hostel for Sunday and Monday night... then it's off to Happy Hour at a place on the 24th floor of an awesome hotel.
